They're building a new shopping complex across the road from work. It'll be great, 'cos there'll be shops 'n stuff! Yay!
Unfortunately, the land on which they're building this complex may have unexploded bombs from WWII on it. This is bad. But it's nice that they've warned us. A bomb went off at the front of TVC a couple of years ago (they still haven't fixed it yet!) So - for both reasons, they decided to do a bomb evacuation today. We found out what time it was going to be at - kinda necessary so we could put people off giving us package runs to do. So there we all were, standing around in the kitchen waiting for the alarm to go off - not very realistic I know but we all wanted to go out together. The allotted time came, and went. So we wandered out into the corridor to see what was going on. There was a security guard going round all the edit suites telling them that the drill was happening and to get out. "So you're the PA system?" said we. "Yup" he replied. So out we all went. When we walked past the donut (the round part of the Beeb), we heard the proper, loud alarm. Apparently the Spur isn't important enough to be evacuated in the event of a bomb going off. Joy.
Anyway, we all trundled towards Hammersmith Park (all being most people in the BBC - in their hundreds, if not thousands!) I felt so sorry for the poor woman sunbathing in her pink bikini pulled up her crack! T'was a very nice walk, if slightly hot - us being in our black runners' t-shirts (they'll get us white ones for winter - just you wait!). After about 15 minutes of wandering, we went back in again, to be greeted by a phone full of drinks orders from the second floor - who security had forgotten to evacuate! Oh deary me...
